Artist Talk with media artists Jenn Norton and Scott McGovern

A realistic introduction to digital video production.

Jenn Norton and Scott McGovern are the current Ted Harrison Artist Retreat artists in residence. Jenn and Scott have some great skills and experience working with video and media to create interesting, multi-layered media art. Much of what they produce is non-traditional video for the web, festivals and gallery installation. Check out their work on You Tube and see it on the big screen during their talk.

Intro to Adobe After Effects

Saturday May 10, 10am to 6pm

Learn the preferred program to create titles, masks, and for colour correction. After Effects is used by industry professionals for commercials, television, and movies. Computers and demo software will be provided for this workshop.

Experience with Mac operating systems is an asset for this course. Previous video, film or time-based media production and / or Adobe Illustrator and / or Photoshop experience is an asset for this course.

Participants of this workshop are encouraged to attend Scott and Jenn's artist talk on Thursday May 8.

Final Cut Pro for beginners

Friday May 30 to Sunday June 1

Learn Apple's accessible video editing software.

Topics include: methods of digitizing, interface layout, system preferences and settings, basic picture editing, file management, importing and exporting to tape and file, sound editing tools and titling. Computers and demo software will be provided for this workshop.

Experience with Mac operating systems is an asset for this course.

No previous video or film production experience is needed for this course.

Bios

Jenn Norton is an interdisciplinary artist working in film/video/electronics producing humourous yet critical works that have been shown across Canada, the United States, and Europe. Norton draws from her eclectic experience as a corporate editor, freelance animator, and circus performer for her quirky, highly visual work. She has won numerous scholarships and awards for her work and is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Fine Art at the University of Guelph.

Course instructor Scott McGovern studied video at the OCAD, where he received several awards for his productions. He has spent the last ten years making videos of all descriptions for himself and others, especially corporate clients. He is currently the technical director at Ed Video in Guelph, ON.
